Koffin Kats - It Happens Every Night

""Never again," I said as I awoke in my pissed-on bed
Swore off all the booze and the drugs
Making me an animal that pukes on the bar and takes off his clothes
And don't give a shit who's gettin' pissed off
Just when I think I'll be a good man
I start to get thirsty, here's trouble again..."
‒ Koffin Kats
The year is 1987. There's a grungy old junkyard in the outskirts of a small town somewhere in countryside Colorado. Music is blasting loudly from a boombox: the crappy sound of distorted electric guitar, quick and raw bashing of drums and raspy vocals. Suddenly, BAM! A gunshot reverberates through the junkyard.
— Fuck!
Caveira, A short pale man grunts frustratedly at his revolver. He's standing a few yards away from some beer bottles neatly placed over the hood of a car for target practice.
There's a man standing next to him with arms crossed: Ethan, a tall guy, rocking a fanned crimson mohawk. He scoffs in the cockiest way, looking down at the other man.
— Hmpf. Gimme the gun, shortie.
— Go at it.
Cav hands it over. The taller man pops the six-shooter's cylinder open and reloads it with a snarky smirk on his lips.
Cav rolls his eyes.

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
Each shot is punctuated by the sound of shattering glass. Six shots, six bottles. Ethan turns around with the cockiest little smile.
— And that's how you shoot.
He bends to Caveira's eye level and mockingly holds out the revolver. Cav yanks it out of Ethan's hands with a scoff. Satisfied with his show, he steps away to lean against a tree and lights a cigarette.

— You’re such a showoff. Cav complains.
He reloads the revolver, looking annoyed, his ego bruised. He closes the loaded chamber and stretches his arm forward, carefully aiming at the bottles.

Ethan takes a drag on his cigarette. Exhaling smoke, he says, with a condescending giggle:
—Sorry for being too good.
Cav is at his wit’s end with this guy.

Ethan is a werewolf, gang leader, punk rocker and a jackass. He's 6'1 and makes that his whole personality.

He's a snarky bum with too much self-esteem living in the junkyard with Bomba and Caveira.
He's the head of drug production and sales. In this small town, the demand isn't very high and the cops are lazy and easy to evade. Easy cash.
There's plenty of time for Ethan and the boys to slack around.

Like a woman's menstruation, lycanthropy is a cycle that repeats itself every month.
It's possible to avoid a transformation through medication (which Sam painstakingly created), but the side effects are intense.
The cocktail of anti-inflammatories and sedatives relaxes the body during the full moon so that the transformation doesn't occur, but the lycanthrope remains drugged and with terrible migraines for a few days due to the suppressed transformation.
Get ready to deal with a very grumpy werewolf...
But lycanthropy is no joke.
Ethan was afflicted with the disease as a teenager. Being a werewolf might sound cool as shit, but it's really just a huge nuisance. Migraines, malnutrition, fatigue...
After a transformation, it feels like every muscle in your body has been stretched and hung out to dry.

The junkyard is home to a small group of misfits:
Ethan, Bomba and Caveira.
They are also friends with Sam and Jax, who live in the trailer park on the outskirts of town.

Piosenka 1 - The Bill

Bomba's hangout spot
Bomba rarely ever speaks.
He tends to communicate nonverbally through signs and body language.

He loves making explosives,
setting stuff on fire,
and blowing shit up.

He's pretty damn smart.
Bomba is usually the brains in any operation.
Also great at being sneaky.
If you can't find him anywhere, he's probably in his hidden hangout spot by the back of the junkyard. He'll sit there for hours crafting and fine-tuning his explosives.

Bomba is hard of hearing. If he ain't looking at you while you speak (lip-reading), he probably won't hear you.

Also, he loves grafitti. He's probably decorated half of town with his stupid doodles.

Jax
The Mad Dog

Jax is the crazy hobo prowling the trailer park in Lumber Peaks. He's completely nuts. He's usually seen drunk out of his mind, laying around around on the grass, throwing boots and beer bottles at the passerbys.
He's completely nuts over his axe. Jax calls it Bobby. He'll cradle it like it's his own child, and will go into a violent rampage if he loses sight of it.
He's like a mad dog in a man's body.

AH, SHIT!
What's wrong
with his face?!

ETHAN!
That's just
how he looks!
Well, he looks
like a damn
zombie!

As a child, Jax was one of the first human subjects to be tested with an experimental modification of the lycanthropy virus.
The virus contained neural modulators in an attempt to make the werewolf more conscious and controllable while transformed, but it failed catastrophically.
The neuromodulators did nothing but severely compromise Jax's cognitive functions. And coupled with the lycanthropy virus, Jax became a beast-man: reduced to the savage mind of a quasi-lycanthrope trapped in a human body, like a mad dog.
Extremely explosive, aggressive, driven by the fight-or-flight instinct.
Half of Jax's body is covered by a massive burn scar.
There's plenty of made-up stories in the neighborhood speculating about what happened to him...
The boldest stories tell of a werewolf with a half-burnt face that appeared the night before Jax showed up in town out of nowhere.

Since the horrific incident at the research facility, Jax has barely been able to speak and communicates, and obly does s with the only person he trusts in the world, Sam.
Sam is like a big sister to him.
They met at the research institute, and were rescued by a scientist who adopted them both before renouncing the institute and hiding from the authorities in the outskirts of the small town of Lumber Peaks.

Sam
Blunt Force Trauma Queen™

Let me tell you something: the American government is not your friend.
Oh, Sam knows that all too well.
It was the 1970s. The scientific race against the Soviets was at its highest peak.
During the Cold War, the Americans funded any kind of research that showed even the slightest promise. Lab tests, microscopy, clinical trials...
Eventually, you'll need human test subjects... and at some point, you run out of volunteers.
Homeless people, death row inmates, orphaned kids... those people that society wouldn't mind if they disappeared were turned into test subjects, sent like cattle to research facilities all over the US in the name of American progress and victory against the Soviets.

PUP -
Kids
Sam and Jax were among the many helpless victims of these experiments. They were just children when they arrived at the research institute, handed over by the juvenile shelter like cattle to be slaughtered for some measly dollars.

Jax suffered the most.
He was part of a batch of test subjects to be tested with modified versions of the lycanthropy virus.
As a result, the pathogen compromised his nervous system and cognition, and he suffered burns to half his body in a laboratory accident, due to negligence by the institute's technicians.
The boy nearly died multiple times, and still carries the scars.

Sam had it a little easier, being tested with a magnetic mutagen that primarily affected the atomic structure of iron in the bloodstream.
The first tests of the mutagen were painful and unsuccessful, but the final dose gave the girl a supernatural ability: the ability to control magnetic fields and affect adjacent metals.

Sam's home at the trailer park
Sam caught the attention of one of the professionals for a reason beyond the mutagen's success: her cleverness.
Dr. Camille Harper was one of the institute's researchers when Sam caught her eye. Apart from her numerous attempts at escaping, Sam showed a quick-wittedness nothing like the other assets at the institute.
Intrigued, Dr. Harper was tasked to approached the asset to test her wits. Sam showed a strong interest in learning and would constantly inquire the doctor... And learned faster than she could teach. She started spending more and more time with the girl and, inevitably, grew attached.
Learning about the horrors happening at thet institute, Camille made a snap decision: to get her out of there and give her a better life.

Camille renounced the institute and helped Sam escape, as well as her friend Jax.
They needed to stay hidden to evade the authorities' search, and the small town of Lumber Peaks seemed like the perfect place to give them a safe life.
Sam had a keen interest in the biological sciences. Camille tutored the girl, who learned tirelessly. Sam was never sent to school, to avoid the public eye that might attract the attention of the authorities searching for the missing mutants.
Growing up, she showed an interest in biochemistry, to learn more about her mutagen and her magnetic abilities, and to try to help Jax deal with the side effects of lycanthropy. She studied biochemistry independently at the public library and developed her first prototype of a lycanthropy suppressant.
