The story
Neither devil nor beast: The Great Red Dragon is Jehovah's brother, who has no creation of his own. He is a neutral, empathetic, indifferent being.
Angered by Jehovah's cruelty, the Great Red Dragon annihilated Christ. This disconnected Jehovah from his own creation, and opened the gates of hell to earth in a cataclysmic event called "Christusfall".
Black magic from hell seeped into the earth, manifested in any and all forms: griffins and dragons and all other infernal beasts walked the earth, and magic was rich and abundant for anyone bold enough to wield it.
But humanity trembled at the death of Christ, and many still clung to the image of Jehovah. The church organized itself as a great union based on lies and inventions about a Christ who would never return, and a god who no longer exists for them.
In no time, they became a force as powerful as the greatest beasts roaming the earth, and motivated by nothing but hatred, fear, and contempt, they hunted down every beast of land and sea and washed the world of all the dark magic they could. The church hunted down and burned its wisest scholars and magicians, and every single beastman, lycanthrope, and shapeshifter was exterminated like rats.
But the gates of hell remain open, and dark magic still exists today. It is nothing more than a faint whisper of what it once was, but it still lingers, dormant, waiting for the day it will be awakened by someone curious and insistent enough to try to tamper with it.
